Deep Roots - and New Paths

We've had our home on the Chester green for five years now. It has been an incredible adventure.
With deepest gratitude for the wonderful friends we have met, and the experiences we've had over the years - we are beginning a thoughtful wind-down of our brick-and-mortar location.

This decision was not made lightly. I love our space; the warm light, the giant windows, the rooms that have welcomed so many lovely people over the years. But these last few weeks, my professional and personal responsibilities outside of the gallery have grown.
You might know a little bit about my background. Some might call my professional path - hmmm.... "meandering". I spent many years working as a veterinarian - then I transitioned to working as a full-time college professor. In between I also worked in research, with a focus on sensory ecology, working with marine mammals and shorebirds. I developed my photography and over time, my passion for combining art and science grew. And let's just say a "genetic predisposition" to gallery ownership also contributed (thanks to my Mamma-Bear, who also is a huge part of my life).
All of this led me to the beautiful space in Chester.

Those same things, though - they also call me away from the space. I love my faculty position at Colby-Sawyer College, and there is lots of work to do there. And, research and travel beckon, my friends.
My professional responsibilities outside of the gallery - and very importantly my family (including that Mamma-Bear that I mentioned) - they all require my time.
These past few months, I found myself closing far too often.
And coincidentally, there is a lovely business in need of a space in Chester:
It makes perfect sense, then, for this beautiful space to make a transition to Michele at Sage. I am leaving with a heavy heart - but I am happy that Sage Jewelry and Gifts will continue to have a home on the Chester green.
The transition happens on April 1st. We will be open the next 2 weekends - Fri, Sat, Sun. Then, we will close March14th for a bit of re-grouping, with a final opening the weekend of March 21st (let's just say that weekend will be fortified with lots of wine and plenty of hugs - and I would love to see you).
Fischer Arts is a wonderful business, and I believe it is evolving. I will continue the website and social media, and with time, I strongly suspect another door will open. I continue to collaborate with our artists, and am very open to the next chapter.
And - coincidentally, that photography habit I mentioned? That seems to be evolving, too. Keep and eye out for new adventures on that horizon.
We've had five incredibly meaningful years on the Chester Green,
and have loved being part of this space and community.
Deepest gratitude to you all, and I can't wait to share more soon.
Love,
Iris
